Water confidence

Everyone should learn to swim and enjoy the water, whatever their age. A local lady in Lancashire proudly swam her first length of the pool at the age of 96 years! Children should be encouraged to find swimming fun, with stimulating activities which help to develop early motor skills and promote water confidence, which will naturally lead to swimming.

With very young children it is Mum or Dad who need to understand how to support the child in the water, and gently encourage their progress to swimming. Local pools often provide ‘Waterbaby’ classes where guidance can be given.

Swimwithus.co.uk has a series of articles which you may find useful when introducing babies and young children to the pool.
